1. Boryeong Mud Festival

  • Address: Daecheon Beach (Kakao Maps)
  • Dates: Friday, July 24 – Sunday, August 9

The Boryeong Mud Festival is South Korea’s largest summer celebration, attracting hundreds of thousands of international and local visitors every year. If you’re worried about breaking out from the mud, don’t be, as it has amazing anti-aging and detox benefits for the skin, so smear it all over!

Aside from rolling around in the mud, you get to slide down massive mud slides, weave your way through obstacle courses, and dance to pop anthems as the beach transforms into a musical hotspot with idols and rappers lighting up the stage!

2. Hwacheon Tomato Festival

Ever heard of a festival being entirely dedicated to a fruit? (Or wait, is it a vegetable?) Well, this festival’s for tomatoes, so you definitely won’t want to miss out if you want to experience something unique! The Hwacheon Tomato Festival is held annually to celebrate the tomato harvesting season, with Hwacheon being the main region of export in the country. You can participate in fun games to win tomatoes, splash around in pools and speed down water slides, get your face painted or get balloon art, and dig into food made with… you guessed it… tomatoes! 3. Hangang Night Walk 14K

When the weather is nice and breezy, the number-one outdoor spot people flock to is the Han River. Though it’s still blazing hot during August, the humidity level reduces significantly at night, making it ideal for a night stroll. Put on your comfy clothes and shoes and head to the Hangang Night Walk to soak up the city lights and feel the night breeze while listening to music and socializing! 4. Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival

The Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival is one of Korea’s most popular summer festivals and is especially great if you want to cool down while still having a fun, high-energy day out. Ocean World’s Birthday Blue Splash is one of the biggest summer events of the season, turning the park into an even more energetic place to cool off and have fun. 7. Hangang River Festival

8. Jeonju Gamaek Festival

This 16-kilometre nighttime walk takes place along Busan’s beautiful coastline, with the ocean breeze and city lights as your backdrop. Walking alone can be boring, but this event is sure to energize you, as it’s a great opportunity to meet new people and socialize as you stroll. If you’re too busy to head to the water park or beach due to a busy lifestyle or because you simply love the city, fear not, as you can enjoy a tropical summer in Seoul too. The Seoul Summer Beach is a free urban escape running under the theme “Wave Summer, Play Seoul.” The festival is split into three zones: the Water Wave Zone, where you can splash around in pools, ride an 8-meter water slide, and cool off under water buckets; the Play Wave Zone, home to the sand play area, flea market, and summer-themed booths; and the Play Market Zone, where food trucks keep the snacks coming.
