Spring in Fukuoka is a vibrant season characterized by mild temperatures, a slight breeze, and many blooming cherry blossoms. With temperatures ranging from 15 to 20 degrees Celsius, it’s the perfect weather for outdoor activities like cherry blossom viewing, called “hanami.” They typically bloom from late March to early April, but this may slightly change depending on the tree’s bloom cycle. 1. Fukuoka Castle Sakura Festival (Maizuru Park)

Held annually from late March to early April, the Fukuoka Castle Cherry Blossom Festival takes place within Maizuru Park, which is home to around 1,000 cherry trees across 19 varieties. The castle was constructed in the early Edo period and served as a symbol of power and prestige, but today, much of the grounds have been converted into a park with sports facilities, a courthouse, and an art museum. During the festival period, there are cherry blossom illuminations at night accompanied by music, food and drink stalls, and paid areas with BBQ facilities for you to enjoy hanami.
2. Uminonakamichi Seaside Park Cherry Blossom Festival

Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is a popular destination for viewing cherry blossoms. Boasting approximately 2,000 cherry trees that line the lawns and cycling trails, the blossoms create stunning floral tunnels throughout the entire park. In early April, you can also view nemophila (baby blue eyes) along with the cherry blossoms, creating a dreamlike landscape of pink and blue. Make sure you rent a bike to fully enjoy the experience!
3. Nishi Park (Nishi Koen)

Nishi Park is home to 1,300 cherry trees, and the only spot in Fukuoka Prefecture recognized among Japan’s 100 cherry blossom viewing sites. During the spring, you can enjoy beautiful nighttime cherry blossom illuminations, traditional events like tea ceremonies and taiko drum performances, and food and drink stalls. Since the park is located on a hilltop, it also offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city.
4. Atago Shrine

The Atago Shrine Cherry Blossom Festival is held annually at Washio Atago Shrine, with this year’s flowers expected to bloom around March 21. There are 2,000 cherry trees of various varieties, and festival highlights include night illuminations, panoramic views overlooking Fukuoka City and Hakata Bay, and traditional events like tea ceremonies and performances.
5. Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine

Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is especially atmospheric in spring, when pale cherry blossoms frame the shrine buildings and nearby paths in soft pink “clouds” above the ponds and bridges. The cherry blossoms this year are set to start flowering around March 18 and reach full bloom around March 30, so late March to the first week of April is the safest window for peak sakura viewing.
6. Yanagawa Canals

Yanagawa’s canals are lined with cherry trees that create a tunnel of blossoms over the water, making spring boat rides especially photogenic as petals drift onto the surface. For 2026, Yanagawa follows the Kyushu pattern, so aim for around late March to very early April, with flowering expected from roughly March 22 and full bloom near March 31, similar to nearby Saga and Fukuoka.
