Heads up, travelers! The annual Lotus Lantern Festival (Yeon Deung Hoe) in Seoul will be celebrated from April 18 to May 11. In honor of Buddha’s birthday, there will be thousands of lotus-shaped lanterns across Seoul as well as a variety of Buddhist programs and activities for all spectators.


1. Lantern Exhibition (Apr 18~May 11)

You can see beautiful lantern exhibition in 3 locations: Jogyesa Temple, Bongeunsa Temple and Cheonggyecheon Stream. We definitely recommend you to visit these 3 places to see the exquisite scene of different lanterns.

2. Lantern Parade (Apr 30)

The parade will take place in the Jongro and Jogyesa temple area in Seoul at 7:00pm on April 30. Note that bus and cars will be prohibited to enter the parade path so it’s highly advisable to take the subway to reach the place to see the parade.

3. Traditional Cultural Event (May 1)

A variety of fun cultural events will be held in the street in front of Jogyesa Temple from 12:00pm to 7:00pm on May 1. You can experience different activities such as learn to make lotus lanterns & crafts, try temple food, play Korean traditional games and more. If you wish to experience and learn the history and culture of Korea’s Buddhism, this event is a must-go.
