Located in south-central Honshu, Japan, Osaka is a major cultural, historical, and economic hub that’s also known as the “City of Merchants” and “Japan’s Kitchen.” Spring is one of the best seasons to visit, with pleasant weather and vibrant cherry blossoms that typically bloom from late March to early April. Here are some great places to visit for a day trip!

1. Fushimi Jikkokubune Canal Boat

The Fushimi Jikkokubune Canal Boat is a hidden gem that lets you take in the beautiful scenery, which is especially stunning during the spring sakura season, as the canal is lined with pink and white sakura blossoms. You get to see the bridge, cherry blossoms, and Keihan Railway, and by the end of the ride, you get taken to an Industrial Revolution museum for a mini tour.

Considered to be one of the best spots to view the cherry blossoms, Sewaritei is a well-known attraction in the Kyoto area for the Sakura season in Japan. You’ll be mind-blown by the wonderful view of a very expansive river and the endless stretch of Sakuras in full bloom. There are also plenty of food and drink stalls and bathrooms for convenience. Expect large crowds during the spring, so avoid weekends and try to visit during the daytime on weekdays.

Nara Park is home to many adorable deer that are free-roaming and coexist with humans. They are mostly friendly, with some that will even bow to you if you have special deer biscuits for feeding, which can be purchased from the vendors nearby. The park itself offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage and is well-maintained, with plenty of open spaces and picturesque scenery. It’s a memorable destination perfect for families, couples, and anyone who loves nature and animals!

One of the most well-known and historically significant Buddhist temples in the nation is Todaji Temple, which is situated in Nara Park. “Great Eastern Temple” is the name given to it, which was first built as the administrative hub for all of Japan’s provincial Buddhist temples. Among the temple’s main features are the Daibutsuden, one of the biggest wooden buildings in the world, which houses a huge 15-meter bronze statue of Buddha Vairocana, and the Nandaimon Gate, which is protected by two statues of the Nio Guardian Kings, both of which are considered national treasures.

5. Mount Yoshino

Mount Yoshino is a must-visit place during the cherry blossom season. The walk-up takes around 2 hours, and you can hike to the top to see senbonzakura (thousands of cherry blossoms). You’ll find lots of small traditional stores along the road, making you feel like you’ve been transported to a Ghibli world. With over 30,000 fully bloomed cherry blossoms, it’s an amazing spot to get photos, and it is recommended to visit after going to Nara Park.

6. Mii-dera Temple

Located in the Kosai area of Lake Biwa in Otsu City, Mii-dera Temple is a beautiful and large temple ground with plenty to see, including the Niomon Gate, Kondo Hall, Three-storied pagoda, and Kannondo Hall. The bell tower is famous for the Mitsui evening bell and you can view artifacts from the 13th century in the main temple building. It’s great to visit during spring, as sakura will be in full bloom outside the temple. You can even feed the koi fish that live under the small bridge by buying a small bag of food for 100 Yen!

7. Fushimi Inari Shrine
